I think it's important we don't get attached to animals. They're animals. This is a chicken. There is a stark difference in wanton killing and torture or livestock to satisfy mans' innate evil and sadistic nature and legitimate religious practices of slaughter. However, from a Christian perspective, these strict practices are no longer a legal must-do. The Jewish tradition has been carried on despite Jesus stating that we have been set free from the Law, and thus for strictly cultural reasons.
