Greetings, This instrument was played for services at St. John Lutheran in Roselle from 1968/69 to its retirement in August of 2009, I was about 5 years old,my first memories of church included this instrument. I was glad and blessed to be allowed to take ownership of it, I rented a truck in August 09 loaded it up with the help of a good friend and took it down to the Bradford Church in Central Illinois, After much part searching on eBay, (one part replaces the noisy pods on the swell pedal), a period amp relay, amp, and speakers. On the last day in September 2010, I was able to get it up and running, Soon I would like to include it again for church services. So I set up the video camera and played a tune. I am not an organist, I play banjo, guitar ,bass, and sing, over the past few years I worked on one hymn. So any constructive criticism on my mechanics is welcome, I noticed on youtube there is not much of this hymn so here is a good start.
Thanks and God Bless.......

  • You did a great job on this song. I wouldn't have known you weren't an organist by the way you were playing. I also play piano and have a few organ videos on here played on the 2 organs I have at home, I play an Allen organ for church and I just love it. if you would like, please take a look at my videos. I will try to put me playing the Allen organ soon. GREAT JOB, please post some more. I just love how you saved this magnificent organ from possibly going to the dump.

  • @pianoorganSDA God Bless! I will take a watch of your videos. I will keep working on it. My goal is to get it back into the worship service.

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. I played a Rodgers 22B organ exactly like this for the first ten years that I served as organist of my church. We left it in our old church downtown when we moved. Our current organ is an Allen of similar size, but the Rodgers console is so much better quality. It is so nice to see the console again. I miss that organ. :-)

  • @wpbc1945 Thanks for the post, this one was on its way probably to the garbage, I grew up with this organ as part of the worship service, I love the way it looks and the way it sounds, I am thankful I had the connections to preserve it. Moving it was a huge ordeal, very heavy. But worth it.

  • i had the opportunity to play a Rodger's organ for my great aunt's funeral yesterday and I must say, those things have an angelic sound to it

  • @squidgetpj92 It has a great tone!

  • glad to see someone save an older organ - so many end up in the dump or used for parts... Tone is excellent for its age.... Just my 2c, when playing hymns, feet for bass, right hand soprano/alto and left hand for tenor... Played for years - but mostly church hymns on larger pipe organs... Keep up the great work!!!

  • Wow, I'm surprised at how authentic this sounds given its age! The church I go to has two worship spaces, the older of which has an Allen organ that I believe to be about the same age and size as this one and sometimes I have to listen to a stop and wonder, "Is this seriously supposed to be a ____?" when I play it. We have a 5-year-old Allen Quantum in the new space which I love the sound of. They've come a long way. Anyway, I'd love to hear a new Rodgers in real life, and to hear more of yours!

  • @casta947, Hi thanks for the kind words, I use the old hymn books for the sheet music, I mostly play the banjo guitar and bass, I have always liked the organ, so I learned one of my favorite hymns.

  • I love how you played it, it sounded like you have good experience with musical instruments, for, although I am not an organist, I too, play a variety of instruments and know the basics of organs. I hope that I may become an organist. I can put my piano skills to use and figure out the rest. So, great job on that piece. By the way, anywhere I can find hymns that have the equivalent sheet music, or did you just make up the accompaniment yourself?
