In 1873, Horatio Spafford wrote the words to the hymn "It is Well with My Soul" after the tragic death of his four daughters. (He wrote it on the ocean while sailing near the
spot where his daughters died.)Very moving.

  • this man was a modern day Job

  • The amount that he endured...then to turn around and say "it is well with my soul" is just amazing. I think a lot of people could learn a lot from Horatio Spafford. Praise God for such examples, I know people who go though trials but nothing like he went thought but they can't seem to just give it up to God, but this man is just amazing. thank you for posting the wonderful video

  • ooh mine...this is really a great inspiring story...this story uplifts my soul and i'll say whatever storm , humiliation, sickness and even death of my body my soul will be well in Jesus...this is a powerful song and very inspiring story.....whatever happens it is well with my soul...this man has shared a great testimony and shown great faith in the LORD

  • @RodVantol Wow!...thats faith.

  • @christovercame Whoa there, brother...are we really comparing sufferings as hashmarks of righteousness? There is nothing wrong with comparing Horatio Spafford's testimony with Job's...BOTH are examples of knowing the peace of God in the midst of severe trial.

  • I once performed the first verse of this song for my college Spanish class...in Spanish the first verse says "De paz inundada mi senda ya este" When my path is inundated by peace...wow. The chorus says "Estoy bien con mi Dios!" I am well with my God...precisely what this amazing song of faith describes. We are well with our God through Christ Jesus our Saviour.

  • My soul glorifies the Lord. My spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

  • @christovercame My friend I don't think you could insult Job. It's not a contest about how much someone suffers, it's what they do with it. When a person loves and trusts God enough to have this kind of faith something mighty cannot help but be the result. We were created to worship the Father and this is one of the most worshipful things I have ever heard of. Praise God for the lesson learned!

  • I'm have a difficult time right now, but this hymn keeps going through my mind and I know that no matter what happens, if I trust in God and stand on His word then all will be well.

  • Horatio Spafford, if he didn't lose his daughters, we wouldn't have this song. God didn't take Spafford daughters so we could have this song, but God worked it together for His purpose..all to the Glory of Jesus Christ. To Him belongs all the praise.

Bible says God comforts us so we can comfort others. How many people didn't give up in their situation because of this hymn of praise.

  • @Kurtanius21 that is the best remark on here. Modern day Job, not really..Job lost twice as many kids and home business wife health sanity..all in the same year..

  • @Exxodus1990 Job would be insulted at your comment. I don't think so.

Job lost everything: kids home business even his wife left him, even his friends blamed him. You know what is the worse, is when you go through a serious situation like Horatio Spafford did, and than those closest to you blame you and say you are at fault for your loses..Job even lost his sanity and health.
