Gameplay "Midgar Zolom"


- My stream viewers had a bet if I could beat it (when you can first fight it) and get the E.Skill "Beta". Took a few tries but finally got the pattern and timing down! Woot!

I used Elemental + Fire on Cloud's armor to give him fire damage reduction against Beta, plus he had the most HP too.

There are a few patterns that must be done before Midgar Zolom will use Beta:

01- Get his HP low to trigger #02
02- Force him to stand up by attacking him (when low HP%)
03- After a certain amount of HP% left (and him standing up), he will knock away the last person to hit him out of the battle (in this case it was Tifa).
04- After a certain amount of HP% left and #03, he will counter any attack against him with Beta.. BUT will auto-attack directly afterwards.

The only way to survive after Beta is either hope Poison kills him off or you use your Limit to interrupt his "auto-attack" turn.

The ONLY way Limit will be successful is if you input it right when Beta is triggered, if you input it afterwards, it'll be too late and Midgar Zolom will kill you (Cloud in my case).

Yea, this is old school (and probably there are better tactics) to majority of you (But not me since I just played this).. still it was pretty cool.

I had Fury up because any attack pretty much gives me Limit (Healing Wind spam ftw).


Funny enough you can easily kill Midgar Zolom without being close to being killed if you just poison him and NOT attack him. He'll die from poison while dealing single-target damage (easily healed) with no "knock-character-out-of-battle" or "Beta".

OH WOW! you beat that thing! btw you dont actually need to fight it,the chocobo farm is very close and if you equip the chocobo materia and look around the world youll get into a battle with a chobo init once you capture it you can ride it and over the lake and avoid fighting that serpant

Yea, ppl on my stream told me that, but I was curious to see how powerful the snake was, so I just fought it and then figured I had a chance of beating it (even though I died first time to it). Which then lead to the bet the streamers did.

Just a tip LL, I believe you can see the hp of the enemies that you've already scanned if you have the battle info bar up. (press Select I think? It's been ages since I played this game xD)

@TheOneThrowed me too. this was my 1st rpg,n then rpg became my most favorite genre. from there,it snowballed. i began collecting rpgs,tales of destiny,the legend of dragoon,thousand arms,etc. those r the good times.

@MasterLL yeah if you bring the battle info bar up (select on the playstation controller) it shows you the HP of any enemy you have sensed when you select them for attack. also you don't need to fight the zolom, OR get a chocobo, you can run across the marsh without it attacking you if you time it right.

how do you use cure with all without actually using the all??

alot of players say that Beta is one of the strongest elemental attacks in the game, and that it should be acquired with Enemy Skill, but actually being successful in the deed is another story...trying to get it at a low level is almost impossible

you are pretty smart at playing FF7. i've been playing it since 1997 when it first came out, never gets old to me, in fact, I just started a new game a few days ago and I'm at the Chocobo Ranch now. I think that's pretty good how you were pretty weak and not leveled up much and were still able to beat the serpent. I'm level 30 with Cloud and everyone else is no lower than level 25. I train to the extreme. You must of had elemental-fire equiped to your armor because Beta hardly got you. good shit
