Great movie. Conveys the feel of the city in the 70s like few other films.

@ashleyjudecollie Sharp analysis and I'd like to contribute the fact that the voice of the narrator in this trailer is ( Eddie ) Egan himself.
For the record, my favourite scenes ( amongst many ) involve the sarcastic hand-waves between Doyle and Charnier; down in the subway and later at the bottom of the bridge ramp.

One of the most overrated movies of all times just as the sequel is, too. And one of the most overrated actors of all times, too.

Fantastic movie and OST.

The two real life NYPD detectives (Det. Eddie Egan & Sonny Grosso) that The French Connection is based on appear as other characters in the movie. The real Det. Eddie Egan appears at 1:04 listening to Hackman who portrays the unforgettable character, Popeye Doyle, based on Egan. 40 years later, the movie still rocks — it won 5 Oscars!
The all-time quintissential visceral NewYork City movie. You can smell the city and feel the grime after watching this movie.
Those city streets, cars, food, prices, clothes, signs, subway, noises, lights & dirt everywhere; Ahhh, my kind of town!

One of the best Hollywood cop thrillers ever made with the first of the many anti-heroes we'd see wearing a badge, a furious pace and hard-boiled action. If only they still made stuff like this for the big screen.
