Uluwatu temple, Bali, Indonesia. The Kecak Dance comes from the Hindù epic tales of "Ramajana" and "Mahabaratha". Nature, monkeys, local people and surfers melt with the Dance in this video from Martino Apollonio.

  • hi. sorry but the kecak does not originate from the telling of the Ramayana. that was an idea to entertain tourists. the kecak was a part of a ritual involving young maidens in each village. the chanters would form a circle around the girls and the "cak cak" was used to put them into trance while they danced. they believed it brought the village good luck. still, i loved the video you put together. bali has such a unique culture rich with art.:-)

  • Hi.Todays Kecak in Uluwatu was re-invented to last one hour in the 30's for tourists but it comes from an older and much longer play which originates from the Ramajana:

Rama, a warrior and rightful hier to the throne of Ayodya, is exiled with his wife Sita to a faraway desert. There, an evil king spies Sita, falls in love with her, and sends a golden deer to lure Rama away. Sita is captured, and Rama rounds up his armies to defeat those of the evil king and rescue her.

    Ciao!

  • i have seen this dance in nusa dua in bali and it was a very exciting dance to watch, bali island is a very unique place to go and has some of the most kindest peole you could meet even though most of the population have nothing , they have high spirits . The local kids have hrs of fun kicking an old ball round, while in the uk they scream if they cant have there latest playstation game. when i got back from bali i was very sad at leaving such a wonderfull place.
