Self-Replicating Mushroom Experiment - SecondLife

Nothing to do with growing real life mushrooms -- move along

This was recorded mainly to see if I can record a video on Second Life (SL) and upload it successfully to YouTube.

What's happening here is I've written a 'growth and replication' script in SL and put it in a sculpted prim mushroom and let it loose on my land. They start as spores, grow, spawn new spores, and die.
Between 0:10 and 0:20 and at other times you'll see a mushroom giving off 'smoke' then vanish. As they vanish they release black spore objects (you might see them rolling around). These spores eventually plant themselves and start growing (seen best near the end of the video 1:25 on).

It's relatively easy to program in a self-replicating object that overloads the sim however I put in a number of built-in safeties to prevent this from getting out of hand. Size and number of spores drop if they're too densely packed and they won't grow at all if they're too far away from a 'food source' object so the number of mushrooms stabilizes itself over time.
