Jon Niese and Matt Harvey look like they will have very good years. With Zack Wheeler, that's potentially a very good 1-2-3 punch. With David Wright, D'Arnaud and Ike Davis, if you develop Wilmer Flores and add in a couple of outfielders and speed, we got a shot in 2015.

Of course, the Nationals will still be strong with Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strausberg, and Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman.. and the Braves will have the Upton Bros, but I believe pitching wins games, and if they can develop that core of starters, they have a very good chance of competing for the next 6 years.

2000 was a great year, but there were a lot of overachievers like Benny Agbayani, Bobby Jones, Rick Reed, and Timo Perez. They weren't built to succeed for more than 1 or 2 years. The Mets suck now, but in 3-4 years they'd developed a good starting rotation backed by Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, and Jon Niese, with great bullpen arms in Mateo, Montero, Familia/Mejia.
