Concorde was around LONG before the big 380. but yes. you nailed it with profitability. whether the smaller airbus' or boeings aircraft any of them would make more money than the concorde ever would. the concorde was more or less a status symbol VERY few could afford its trips. literally if you had the means, you could leave in the am from nyc, have lunch in paris and be home in time for dinner.
