This is specifically the Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides). The call fading away in that mournful way is quite characteristic. The other four Corvus species in Australia don't do this. The bulging throat hackles are the other giveaway that this is an Australian Raven.
Haha many people find that noise anoying but I think it's cool. It's like:
"Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh! Aaaaauuuuhhhh....."

i always thoguht they were swearing or just very bored sounding, i love the singing (even tho alot of people disagree) but they can be pretty mean
