Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift - No Hiring Generics No Bazaar No Auctions No Items

First really challenging mission.

Flowsand Lord is agreed to be hard in a normal game, and this is the point when our restrictions are actually noticeable. Without items and Cura magic (usually available because of Bazaar at this point), or better weapons/classes, we must make haste to end the game as quickly as possible.

Flowsand Lord has a lot of nasty attacks. A Target All that does moderate damage to everybody, used in the beginning of the battle and also later on. The consequences can't be fully dispelled with casting Cure; in fact, no form of healing at our disposal is passable. I could technically have Adelle (or even Luso and the generic Archer) equip White Magick as secondary A-ability as well, but that would mean I have nobody to actually attack the boss, which leads us to discuss another obstacle...

The boss will mostly use Draw, which absorbs a very substantial amount of HP from the victim, up to around 100. Since we can't do much more damage than that in one single turn, we need quite a bit of luck to actually deplete his HP by degrees.

This also means we must control the field, which isn't easy. There are two Antlions here and, every time one dies, another one will arrive from a random spot on the map. Confusing the Antlions is a good idea but is not likely to change their actions even if it does succeed (they are still very likely to keep attacking your party), Sleep has a bad chance of being inflicted and the Green Mage is better off casting Cure on every turn she gets because that's our only form of healing. Bad Breath is situational and it's hard to find a good time to use it, not to mention that it doesn't inflict anything that would really be beneficial to us (Silence, Blind, Poison and Slow are all the possible statuses, iirc).

Attack Up on every attacker before approaching the boss is a must, as we want to end this as soon as possible. Self-Destruct would be tremendously useful here, but unfortunately it can't reach the boss.

I didn't go for the Angel Ring because I needed all six people taking active part in the battle. Five would make it nearly impossible to finish.

  • Okay, I tried to figure this one out, but I just can't pick out enough phrases: what is the song?

  • The Gulls by Hammers of Misfortune

  • xD I had to laugh when the boss got counter by all 3 characters ^^ and how he managed to survive with 1 health left xD great job as always Moogleboss

  • The plan was to get the whole party to stand next to the boss, except for the Green Mage. Too bad Luso and Adelle didn't live long enough for a 5-person counter to happen.

  • Ohhh, damn, that boss is a nightmare... But now that I'm at high levels, I kinda WANT to fight that thing again!

    Also, "Captain Murasa". Hehehe.

  • Sweet, thanks! Love the videos by the way. My list of good artists has expanded greatly because of it, and they're also fun to watch (because I don't have the game anymore).

  • I actually failed this mission at your characters' levels... Gosh, made me feel noobish now watching this with your rules!

  • I still hate that boss :P
