Laird can NOT ride a short board so, to be relevant, he does everything "around" surfing. Andy Irons would destroy Laird in any size surf but Laird couldn't hit a tail slide on a short board if his life depended upon it. Laird revolutionized many ways to catch big waves and ways to get in the water for those who don't now how to surf - like SUP's. When he surfs he rides a long board.

Laird is more of a pioneer, while Kelly is a perfectionist. Both are watermen of which there a few rivals, but Laird seems to turn on when no one is watching, while Kelly turns on when everybody is.

@Waxmystick First of all i do surf but i surf for the fun of it i don't really care about both if them they can do what they wont but there to different to compare ! cool he can paddle i bet lard can he just chooses to be towed in because its easier and the co-finder of the tow-in method !

@jaywall96 - Kelly just WON Chopes in Tahiti. He's got 10 world titles. He was dropping in to GIANT bombs PADDLING, not towing. You don't surf and you don't know. I've towed. It's EASY. Kelly surfs circles around Laird, has the titles to prove it, and every other surfer on the tour would back me up.

@orelero not really. everyone catches big waves these days. its not that impressive. being the undesputed king of surfing is a little more impressive in my eyes.
