A female of the blue longhorn beetle with black spots (Rosalia batesi, family Cerambycidae) laying eggs into the bark of a dead tree. You can see her ovipositor extended. Mid-August 2008 in Japan.

雑木林の枯れ木にて発見。美しいルリボシカミキリを見るのもカミキリムシの産卵行動を見るのも全く初めてだったので、大層嬉しい出会いでした。私に警戒して幹を駆け上がり­、反対側に回り込もうとします。大顎は使わず産卵管を伸ばして幹の割れ目に差し込むだけのようです。撮影後に採集しようと試みたものの、擬死落下して見失ってしまいました­。
樹種は不明です。完全に死んでいて手がかりとなる葉も残っていませんでした。プロは樹皮の様子などから分かってしまうのでしょうか。
