The Big Debate: This House Believes That Free Speech Has Failed

The Russel Brand and Jonathan Ross scandal, Satanic Verses, the cartoons of Prophet Muhammed (saw), the Jewel of Madinah, publishing of Mein Kampf, these are just some of the examples that some argue are the problems of allowing Freedom of Speech. However, it is believed amongst many that Free Speech is the mark of a progressive society and that removing it will cause a return to a draconian and oppressive state thus allowing ideologies like Islam which curtail Freedom of Speech can only lead to backwardness and tyranny.
