  • @minralb You often found Olds or Pontiac rear ends in Chevy drag cars of the 50's and 60's. While Chevy's were quick off the mark, their rear ends were somewhat of a delicate flower; They could not take the torque, or sustained high speeds.

  • Nice hats.

  • Boring, even by 1955 standards.

  • Now This is the Real 'Dancing with The Stars'!!!!

  • The '50s era Olds 88 was a fast car by the standards of it's time, but the '55 Chevy was king of the 1/4 mile drag strip until the '57s came out. My sister bought a used '55 Chevy Bel Aire that I liked a lot, and it led me to buy a new blue and white '57 Bel Aire with the 283ci PowerPack option. I loved everything about my '57 except that the smaller 14" wheels caused the front wheel bearings and brake shoes to wear out quickly. 20K miles was about all I could get out of a brake job.

  • Don't forget the more powerful "rocket engine"! - lol.

  • This must have been the type of ad that influenced my parents to only drive Oldsmobiles.

  • Now, tell the truth..Don't you feel like going to buy one Right Now? And if you knew what they were going for today, wouldn't you have bought one every year? Case Closed, Detroit. Duh......

  • Yup...the VentiPorts appeared oval to me, not round the first time around...and the grille is obviously not '56.

  • they're all 55s, notice the turn signal right below the headlight on the buick and not to the outer edge like in 56. Also the small emblem in the grill not the v shape large one on 56
