Patricia, very nice. Can we see some of your single note ideas?

Nicely done! I agree, it would be nice to have some of the tune at tempo first, but not the whole thing, that would take too long. Maybe play the first 8, then take that apart, the next 8-12 (whatever the structure is), take that apart, etc. That way you won't have the pressure of performing the whole piece correctly in one take, and can take your time working through the piece. I like your approach though, relaxed and not intimidating as most, and not over-explained to the point of losing it.

Thanks so much! This is actually a trial video; it will be redone with a better camera and a few revisions soon. :)

Hi Patricia--
EXCELLENT video lesson. Very well done, very professional.
Good job Pat. I have the lead sheet and can follow you no problem. Thanks for taking the time - and being patient showing us the chords and bass, slowly at first. It works. Good luck

Patricia,
This is a nice video lesson and I like your approach. I guess it was a slip of the tongue when you attributed it to Freddie Hubbard instead of Clifford Brown. May I suggest in your re-make that, before you show in detail how to play Joy Spring with bass and chords you play through once at normal tempo and a second time more slowly. That way, students are aware of what the end result should sound like. In your detailed instruction, naming each chord the first time would be helpful.

You're right—playing it first does make sense. I'll do that when I re-record this tutorial on better equipment. (And yes, saying that the song written by Freddie instead of Brownie was a huge mistake and a slip of the tongue. I will attribute it to nervousness. Yeah, that's it! :))
