Written in 1926, the Tagalog song was inspired by the Kumintang, a traditional song form from Batangas (a province in the Philippines) with Malayan rhythmic patterns and modes.

In the first part of the song, the expressive text and the rich tones and musical textures paint an enigmatic night scene with the wind seemingly awakening the moon from its sleep on the waters. Then Muse of the Pasig River appears in the purest of forms and is tossed about by waves together with a song and a poem.

In the second more lyrical part of the song with an enchanting melody, the Muse sings of the Kingdom of Love, where she was once a princess. She says that the kingdom has vanished because Love has died. Even though her strength lives on in the hearts of all people, she is pleading for love, which she needs to survive.

  • @carecomment8, have you ever performed live in your life? you probably just hate these people (for some reason, maybe you we're left out) because you would not be following their videos uploads. You probably have not spent a single cent watching an opera, broadway...or heck even small budgeted musical. Show us your credentials before you make a comment.

  • @Nonymous77

I totally agree with you too Nony....why don't you check out her other renditions of poorly executed songs as well. Canada Pop to Broadway Trio....it is shocking to observe how she could hardly sustain a high note without sneaking a breath in between.

  • @MaLillyBoogan I dont mind those details i can still understand what she means even with those breathings.

  • I never thought id hear a Filipino aria like this that measures up with classic European operas such as Lakme, Lammermour, etc. Too bad we don't have a Conching Rosal alive today. I wonder if this song has gone international in the international world of opera. I wish this were sung by celebrity divas such as Bartoli, Dessay, Flemming. If they do, they'd own it!! Mabuhay ang Filipino!!!

  • This song is a Filipino classic and the singer gave a beautiful interpretation of it. It moved me to tears, believe it or not.

    Salamat po!

  • marvelous singing voice!lilac will be launching her cd " Believe"here in Cebu in JKan .She will have a show at the teatro Casino of Waterfront Hotel, Lahug.Possibly on Jan 28.see you all there!

  • I agree, it is poorly executed! Not a classically trained singer I suppose.

  • Why the heck does she breathe between "inyong" and "ibigay" and between "ko'y" and "inyong"? That's a big no-no! If she has been properly trained vocally, she shoud know that.

  • This song is one of my faves from my auntie's record. She gave us a copy back here in Cebu when my late grandmother went to watch her show here. Thank you auntie Lilac for singing and keeping alive these old songs that are dear to every Filipinos heart. ^_^

  • tnx 4 sharing d talent..u gave lyf to d song again...can u plz hav d piano instrumental of it?tnx...God bless..
