Shortly before the primaries of March 4, 2008, the Hillary Clinton campaign came out with an ad which featured a phone ringing at 3 a.m. in the White House due to some situation in the world that the President was being notified of. An announcer then suggests why Clinton would be the right person to take the call. Soon after Clinton's "3 a.m." ad debuted, the Barack Obama campaign came out with their own adaptation. But what was being said in these ads? Was it anything of substance, or was it just an attempt to bolster national security credentials to untrained, uninformed, and uncommitted voters?
As a trained, informed, and committed voter, the ads spoke nothing to me. So I decided to write a parody of the Clinton and Obama ads with what I "heard" in them. I also wrote a more serious one that highlighted John McCain's real national security credentials, as his campaign didn't cut a "3 a.m." ad for national security.
