@65attila Actually it was recorded in 1973, but it's still a marvel. Most sopranos drop Elvira by age 46; Sutherland still had over 10 years of Elviras left in her!

why did they speed up the end, if anything, it should slow down and be more dramatic

The huge sound of her voice especially at the very top on recordings is a shadow of
the sound on the stage. This performance is a marvel - she was 51 in 1976 when I belive this was recorded.

As I understand, Bellini was asked to write this aria so that there would be a glorious aria to end the piece. This ending is one of the reasons that "I Puritani" is my favorite opera.

her voice is so creamy here! I love it
There has never been such a large, rich coloratura voice so firmly anchored in the torso as this one. A miraculous instrument, the likes of which come once a century.
