This video showcases the role of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Alberta, Canada. The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), the regulatory and licensing body for LPNs in Alberta, participated in an exciting opportunity to describe the Licensed Practical Nurse profession via a feature video on the Alberta government website Alberta Learning Information Service (ALIS). ALIS is the provincial gateway to provide Alberta residents with information for career planning, post-secondary education and training, educational funding, job search, labour market trends, and workplace issues. This video was filmed at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta, and features Cathy Fuhr, LPN. It launched on the ALIS website in August 2009.

  • @TheFelisagabay You're never too old to do anything! The friend who discouraged you about pursuing your goal isn't really a friend. Even if it's hard...you can do it! Never let anything challenging soar you away from your aspirations. Remember everyone's experience are their own--you may have a difference experience as an RN/LPN. Which ever you decide to pursue, I wish you the best of luck! :-)

  • Hello im 40 years old...Do you think I'm too old to be an LPN. My friend who is an RN discourage me to take this course because she said its hard...but deep inside me i really want to try new things....

  • So AMAZING to see an LPN be proud to be an LPN and really show everyone how important your role is! All nurses are important! Wish more nurses LPN's and RN's would be this proud of their own individuals roles and to do so with such confidence. I think that would be a world of difference! =)

  • @roninblax I disagree, I don't think RN's are to blame they both have different scope of practice and I respect both for what they are, especially being a nursing student myself and potential RN in the future i've seen first hand that they are equally important and play a very significant role in the health care system. Its like saying RN's get beat down by Doctors. No their scope of practice is different and you do what is in your scope to the best of your ability.

  • Nice to see a LPN who hasn't been beaten down by a RN. This business is cutthroat and RN's are the culprits. Unfortunately LPN's are either leaving the profession or bridging because we just can't take the abuse, harassment or belittling any longer.

  • You have a very beautiful face and personality you are graceful i can feel your good energy god bless you. there are many nurses out there that just lose it but you can overcome any obstacle that come your way.Especially in this field i think you were born to be a nurse.

  • I just noticed the siderails are down.... Awesome vid though

  • Love you Kathy. My GF is coming to Canada to do LPN. She got admission in Conestoga college, Kitchener. I hope she will get a job as soon as possible and able to support me in future. Definitely I gonna show this video to my GF.

  • love this. Kathy hope to meet you one day so you can mentor me.
