This week's recommended movie is rated "Z" - for ZORRO, that is - this week's movie is the 1940 film, The Mark of Zorro, starring Tyrone Power, Linda Darnell, and the amazing Basil Rathbone.

  • The thing about shooting in b&w is the cinematographer makes certain choices in regards to lighting and shadows that are very different from color movies. That is why the best black and white is a beautiful thing to behold in and of itself. The only way I can accept colorizing a movie is if the original is still included on the dvd as well as the colorized version.

  • Colorizing gives new life to old films. ( when they do it right ) The B films ( like the Universals we love) did not have the budget for color.

  • Yeah, colorizing... Ted Turner's vision of the future as itb relates to classic b&w films! DOA w/Edmond O'Brien in color...please!

You're right Doc, Rathbone is excellent in this one. Definite must have!

  • When I saw that this video had Zorro in it, I thought it was gonna be that crazy B-comedy starring George Hamilton called "Zorro the Gay Blade".

I remember watching reruns of the old B&W Zorro tv show on the Family Channel or Nick at Night or some channel like that when I was a kid.

    And yeah, colorizing is evil.

  • Colorizing is evil.
