Time lapse photography taken on Mauna Kea. The shots here range from about an hour on the shortest to 3.5 hours on the longest one. Each shot takes hundreds of images to compile. The lasers are used for adaptive optics and are equipped on the Keck and Gemini telescopes. As the telescopes track their targets, the laser beam sweeps with it in the sky.

Stacking the images produce a familiar star trail, but also with the lasers.

This video is a tribute to all those who brave the mountain while observing at subzero temperatures and only 60% of the air at sealevel.

Thanks to Jean-Charles Cuillandre's "Hawaiian Starlight" for providing the inspiration.

  • whats the name of the song, of course i know it's Halo

  • @robloxroxx It's the Halo theme reprise. The only difference is the piano part in the end.

  • 3:25 is awesome

  • @Broan13 Thanks! It's one of my favorite images from this observing run.
