they cut down the bayonets because troops complained that the bayonets were to bulky when attached, thus the M5 was born, it had a 10 inch blade, the 1905 you speak of had a 16 inch blade. The M1942 Bayonet was also cut down to 10 inches, and then renamed the M1 garand bayonet which became standard issue from 1942-1957.
none were turned into fighting knives that was a myth.

condition is ecellent the black is blade but at the edge its sharpend and s steel colour theres a symbole on it but its kinda weird looking
