My email is blowing up about this, so here it is. My thoughts. Weak as my mental powers may be, I still had an idea or two.

Summary:

I would love to see the Souls series on PC, but I don't want a half-assed port of a game that wasn't designed for PC in the first place. If they can do a good job of it, it would be a good fit... minus the controls. This game needs a controller.

I don't think TotalBiscuit made a particularly good case for porting this specific game to PC. His video sounded more like a "PC is better than Console" vid to me (I actually would prefer PC, as well, but that's not the point). However, he did have some good insights about the current gaming market.

Long story short for Souls fans, I think we should support the petition so that future Souls games might come to PC as well (and the world might be mended).

The petition:

The thread on bamco's eu forums:
http://forums.namcobandaigames.eu/showthread.php?p=2330759

The video that this is a response to:

Finally, a request: I'd love to hear what you think about this issue, but let's be civil. None of this "console players are children, pc players are dicks" bullshit. I normally do not remove comments from videos, but I do remove comments that attack other viewers. Cheap shots on me are fine, w/e, I'm used to that by now I guess. (crying)

I had a lot more to say about the issue, but I'm married now so yeah gotta go home and BE A FAMILY M-

  • What.. ? Why the hell would the Souls series need a rejuvenating title? The first two titles were absolutely fine..

  • @DemonicRider It's just my opinion, but everything after Anor Londo in Dark Souls was a bit disappointing. To put it in perspective, it's still basically my favorite game of all time... but the second half felt much weaker than the first. End-game bosses like Seath and BoC? Pretty uninspired stuff. DS got away with some things because it was so new but..

I love the series, but there are many things that need improvement: Multiplayer, Magic variety, Dual-wielding in general.

  • Channeler's Trident at fucking Parish? Without any humanity or a ring?

I'M FUCKING MAD YES I AM.

  • @AlexDeviant I ended up with three before I killed off Seath. My luck man... I tell ya.

  • or maybe controllers suck and ppl can''t play things like ut3 or quake live or inMomentum:/

Not to mention starcraft 2 apm....i don't think it's a matter of controllers since k&m are way better, it's a matter of keybinding:P

  • @fluyd9 Yes, people shouldn't play games designed for a keyboard using a controller. That sentence works if you change the order, too. You can also substitute joystick or driving wheel or whatever other input method the designers had in mind in there.

Some games are more forgiving than others when it comes to changing input methods.

Saying controllers suck is as asinine as saying keyboards suck. They are each better for certain tasks.

  • @SushiBoi7 He means control responsiveness. Like if you click the attack button and it delays for a second or two then attacks after. That would be terrible. The button mapping is obvious.

  • Bearable? this game would play way better on keyboard and mouse, less fumbling around.. more straight keybinds. The only thing it would lack is an easy way to RP walk since there wouldn't be an analog to control your exact movement speed.

  • About the porting thing: While I couldn't really care about Dark Souls being on PC or not, Namco Bandai did the Dark Souls port to Xbox in the first place, so don't think that a port from somebody other than From would mean an extremely shoddy port.

  • @SushiBoi7 That would rid the two moves of their "hard" feel. You should know what I'm talking about, the touch of when you do a certain action in a game is associated with the feel of the key you use to do it, would it feel right to play BF3 and shoot with the F key? No. Of course it has more possible keys/buttons, but not necessarily better ones. Controllers would always be better for a game like this unless it was changed somehow, that's why I'm not suggesting anything.

  • Surely it can't be too hard to port it to PC, X-Box 360 code is fairly similar I believe.

  • @FUUAAAAAAAARRRRKKKKK (nice name) anyways "Q" could be parry, or e, or shift, or whatever the devs want it to be, or whatever you rebind it to. Use your head, the kb+mouse has more keys/buttons then an xbox/ps3 controller so give me a possible keybinding, instead of bashing my idea of a control scheme you herp

  • @SushiBoi7 You didn't even include strong attacks and parries you derp

  • ROFL 'But the controller is greasy!' Made my day.

  • @SushiBoi7 also enable controller support
