"International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) officials announced Friday that the company will purchase Unica Corp. (NASDAQ:UNCA) for $480 million in cash, or $21 per share.

""Unica will expand IBM's ability to help organizations analyze and predict customer preferences and develop more targeted marketing campaigns,"" commented an IBM official.

Unica's 500 employees will reportedly work in IBM's Software Solutions Group, reports MarketWatch.

SmarTrend currently has IBM in a Downtrend and is currently monitoring these developments to alert subscribers to any change of trend.

IBM should find initial support at its 50-day moving average (MA) of $128.18 and further support at its 200-day MA of $127.69.

In the last five trading sessions, the 50-day MA has climbed 0.4% while the 200-day MA has risen 0.18%."
