you should make difference between Russians and communism, Russians had a huge anticommunistic movenment at that time, which included old imperial generals and formal soviet citizens. Talking about "russians" dont forget that soviet union was created and ruled by jews, no wonder they wanted to exterminate russian nation and instead of it create soviet slaves, actually they almost succeeded.

It was really a battle between the bad and the worse (take your pick which is which) and hoping for the impossible... that both would lose

Ironicaly , if Hitler allow the retreat of the troops from town when the danger of encirclement became obvious , Germany were been win the battle ...

Actually the Germans were not equiped for the winter, the OKW obviously thought the battle would be over before winter set in.
Those coats you see were a rarity and many captured off dead Russians.
Those 1 million Germans, were maybe 300,000. The rest were italians and other crappy allies to germany.
had it been 1 million Germans the axis would have taken stalingrad. unfortunetly to many different places were being attacked.
