  • you have to roast the nut to make coffee. you also can boil out the oil and use it as a cooking oil, to make lye soap or an oil lamp. each acorn is about 30% oil by volume. the oil is similar to olive oil. you can also use the nut as a flour substitute if you leach out the bitter tannins first. the white oak has the least amount of tannins of all the other oak trees.
