The East Somerset Railway celebrated its 150th anniversary since the line was first opened way back in November 1858.
The line was originally laid to Brunel's Broad Gauge track, but converted to Standard Gauge in 1892.
Closed as part of the Beeching Axe in 1963. The line was reopened by wildlife artist David Shepherd in 1973 to house his two locos 92203 Black Prince and his BR Standard 4.

As part of the ceremony, a steam service hauled by a GWR O-6-0ST No.813 was decorated with flowers and poppies to commemorate the spectacular event.
Many rail volunteers and supporters dressed in Victorian clothes and outfits. I myself dressed up nicely aswell!

As the event was held on Remembrance Sunday, a two minute silence took part in the event at the 11th hour as part of the 90th anniversary since the end of the First World War on November 11th 1918.
Making this one of the most important films to make.

A once in a lifetime event to be remembered by all.

A quick note: I wonder how to make the next films clearer picture quallity? Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Nice one mate, another 5* vid from you Ryan!

  • Thank you man!

  • Great video mate, I volunteer at that railway, I was one of the people working on the Yankee tank 30075!

  • The engine shed was interesting to be in, as on many preserved lines not many of them are restricted to the public were as this one wasn't. The USA Tank 30075 is a very interesting loco.

  • was the music there any way or did you put it in?

  • No the music was played by a band nearby.

  • Great Video, Liked! :)

  • The East Somerset Railway is one of the best railways I have ever known.

I volunteer at the ESR on weekends, because I love Steam engines. Trains are incredible. :)

  • thats one of the good things about didcot, getting in the shed and workshop allways interesting to see in engines in mid overhaul

  • So much for that lousy Dr.Beeching, looks like he coulden't keep the railways down forever! Good job

  • Yeah the DFR's used to be open to the public but because of H&S they haven't been able to since 2007.

  • Yeh, i've found that on many lines, you can't go in the shed, the ESR has always done it, lets just hope all the health and saftey rubbish don't close the shed to the public, we would not be happy, it's good to have the shed open to public, they ask you questions about the locos and things like that, and your there to answer them!
