In the Autumn of 2008, two major hurricanes swept mercilessly though the island of Cayman Brac - Gustav (Cat 2) and Paloma (Cat 5). Nine months later, the majority of the damage on land has been repaired and life is returning to normal. It is now time to attend to the damage these tempests wreaked on the underwater city of Atlantis. This video is the first in a series that will document the damage caused to Atlantis followed by videos of the arduous process of restoring the underwater mega artwork of Foots. Included will be the addition of 21 new sculptures to Atlantis.

Video 1
----------

My first visit to Atlantis since the storms. I spent 45 minutes in the city taking pictures and video. The effect of the storms is extensive with many sculptures knocked over (and partially buried in the sand) or moved, turned and/or left leaning. Some of this video is focused on the grand archway. This 15,000 lb structure had it's 5000 lb top beam swept off. The good news is the incredible pace of growth on the sculptures (sponge, coral, etc...) and Foots will be doubly pleased to see that most of the residents of Atlantis (he's named them all) have returned and are living happily and harmoniously in and about the city. These include an Eagle Ray, Sting Ray, Queen Triggerfish and a Barracuda. I only saw one of the mated pair of French Angelfish, meandering around the overturned sundial - it's former home... not sure where it's mate is...

Enjoy the videos.

  • Human. The artist named Foots made this underwater monument which is in the waters of Cayman Brac in the Caribbean. It's been down there for about 9 years now. It's 60 feet deep and a popular place to dive. No Aliens. No CGI. Just lots of concrete, imagination, hard work and persistence.

  • CGI as in Computer Generated Imagery?

  • is that a cemetary?

  • @BurningEagle12

No. EVeryone is asking that but not reading the previous responses. It's a massive under water art piece and artificial reef created by the artist "Foots" in the waters of Cayman Brac. It's massive with about 150,000 lbs of concrete. This video shows the damage created when category 5 hurricane Paloma blew through in 2008. Statues were knocked over or left leaning, and the big 10,000 lb lintel that is the top part of the archway, was knocked right off it's pillars.

  • This should be a screen saver!

  • @Heavenlyange10

Thanks. I will pass on the comments to the artist "Foots" who built this.

  • @christinaclover14 Thats really the question, it might be nothing more then a story used to explain an idea by Plato. Interesting enough it was never taken seriously until about 300 years ago. Then all of a sudden there were books and stories that didn't exist before, poping up. Is it real, possible, but not in the stories of alien or great technology, more like the stories of Pompii and Troy, cities that were lost in legend and made to be more then they were until found.

  • it's eerie.

  • They found Atlantis! It is at the bottom of Wastwater Lake UK. They found gnomes guarding the entrance.

  • nonsense

  • That looks awesome and creepy at the same time.

  • Is Atlantis real?

  • humans or extra

  • Some beautiful CGI work!
