Am I the only one who likes William F. Buckley?  His beliefs are the direct opposite of mine . . . But I like him a lot somehow.

Same here. I admired his intelligence despite disagreeing with most of his views. But he did favor the legalization of all drugs.

The infuriating thing about Buckley is how FAIR he could be, how he was able to understand that, although people thought differently from him, that didn't mean he was obligated to crush or humiliate them. Hard to believe, but in American public life there used to be style, manners, and class - from everyone. In Buckley's time, acting like a jerk was SO uncool.
