  • Fizzy,

I subscribed to you cause you're hilarious and intelligent. But this philosophical post is amazing. I love all of this video.

I love these moments. the moments of clarity, the ones you understand so much. And i know you are having it cause you're talking in that disjunct manner where your brain is so high on life that explaining it seems so silly and you just want to bask in the euphoria you feel.

I'm so glad you did take the time to explain it.

    you made my night.

    thanks.

  • Well, thank you very much as well. It is really wonderful to have someone understand how wonderful a feeling this is, and to be able to share it with them. Things like that keep me going :D

  • Whether you want my support or not, you've got it. =D

  • Well whether YOU want MY gratitude or not, YOU've got it!

  • It's really incredible that you've found this thing that inspires you so much. Having passion for something is what should drive us! I hope you find happiness in what you do. (:

(Oh, and I totally picked up my violin for the first time in a month because of this. :D)

  • I'm glad! And I hope you enjoyed it, even if it wasn't something that rivaled Paganini!

  • That's really cool. I can totally feel your excitement! Actually I can relate to it exactly! But not about music. That's what I've been made to realise about my practice: Illustration. Good luck with everything! :)

  • I am more of a choral composer nerd than an instrumental composer nerd. That all said, American "classical" is not really anything like "classical" music. To me, the best American composers are the ones who mix classic music theory with experimental thought. My favorite choral composer from any of my performances is Morten Lauridsen, and he wrote songs in varied styles inspired by the texts. Like the Italian fire songs, the French Rose cycle, and the Lux Aeterna.

  • Wow, You just inspired me! That makes me feel so much better about not knowing where I'm going to be come May(after graduation). Thanks!!

  • I absolutely love this.

  • I had a similar experience reading Alan Kaprow's Essays on the Blurring of Art and Life. All of it, except art as a whole instead of simply what makes music. Air five.

  • I agree. I think I'd much rather have a job I love and have absolutely no time for anything else...

  • I had a kind of similar revelation, although not having to do with music. I've figured that the things I like to do and the talents I have won't necessarily earn me much money, but like you I want to travel the world. I also wish that money wasn't important, and hate that not having it can easily prevent you from being able to do the things you want to do, like seeing the world. I reject the notion of working at a job you hate to earn the money to buy a bigger TV! Yay!

  • Aww. And this is really cool, and very true (at least as far as I know, which isn't far). I really liked this and will probably watch it a few more times to take in everything you said. Aside from the awesomeness it remids me of what my band director said; no matter what I do, the fact that I can play clarinet is something I will always carry with me and it will always be a part of who I am.

To see this self-actualization is really awesome. You rock on, Steve.

  • I really like this video Steve. I agree with a lot of your points. I'm playing Candide by Bernstein in band and it's the first time I've been excited about a piece in awhile.

  • Very inspiring Steve. I'm happy that you've had this epiphany and I'm looking forward to being there when the Awesome happens =)
