The Meters are pretty cool, YES also had some pretty funky stuff during this time in their tunes but then again what didn't yes have, Sly and the Family Stone, FELA KUTI is by far one of of my favorites!!! James Brown of course, Fania All Stars has some nice funky Salsa, along with Mongo Santamaria, Herbie Hancock, Eddie Hazel, The Isley Brothers,.....I like all these guys I still haven't finished listening to all their songs!
