  • I usally get the hiccups from laughing to much

  • i had the hiccups today a few hours ago :)) - i hold my breath most of the times to get rid of them :))

  • Scientists do have an answer:

The phrenic nerve wraps around a rather lot of our anatomy. It has its evolutionary origins in amphibians as the nerve that would detect water and quickly shut the larynx, open the gills, and draw in water for processing.

Unfortunately in us mammals, it's prone to misfiring, and as a result: hiccups.

  • Read the description of this video

    watch?v=eOJCxxCwuBk

for an evolutionary explanation (Actually, I highly recommend "Your Inner Fish", but the description on that video is a decent summary).

  • Hiccups aren't limited to only humans!

I had a dog that used to get hiccups.

  • Holy frickin hell. If I had the hiccups for... 68.... YEARS I think I would jump off a bridge while shooting myself and screaming KIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL MEEEEEEEEEEEE! Although that would obviously be unnessisary since I would already have that job covered. Lol.

  • kewlios

  • WOW, you just gave me a lecture of hipcups, and yes I usually hold my breath for a min, or drink water 2 stop it, I hate them but they are natural, lol

  • @SKMac1 She asked to be my friend too, and I dont know here.
