The Birth Of Slipknot
The band reformed in 1995 as Meld, where this is when the story of Slipknot begins. This line-up featured, Anders Colsefini - vocals, Shawn Crahan - drums, Paul Gray - bass, Donnie Steele - guitar, and Quan "Meld" Nong - Guitar. Quan "Meld" Nong left the band because he wanted more of punk/alt. sound. Following his departure, the band changed its name to The Pale Ones. Paul wanted to bring in Nathan Jonas Jordison (Joey Jordison), so he would meet up with him at Sinclairs where he worked nights. After an agreement that Joey would check them out, he missed the first two sessions due to work priorities, he caught the third one and he watched them play the songs Slipknot, Gently, and Fur. He soon realized that he wanted to play for this band. He took over main drumkit and Shawn was pushed to percussion. Shawn and Joey decided that they wanted three drummers to provide a "hardcore audio assault". There would be a right and left drummer and one drummer in the back controlling it all, creating a "wall of power". They looked for a new guitarist to replace Quan "Meld" Nong. Joey brought in, whom he played with in Modifidious, Josh Brainard. With the addition of Josh, the band decided once again to change its name, now Pyg System. That name didnt last that long. Shortly after, changed its name to as we know it now...Slipknot.

MFKR
In 1995, they recorded their first CD Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat (Also referred as MFKR). The album was released on Halloween of '96 under Ismist Recordings, with only 1,000 copies made. In February of 1996, Donnie Steele departs from the band and is replaced with Craig Jones whom Joey worked in previous band Modifidious. Craig was good with computers so the band nicknamed him "133". Slipknot's first major show was on April 4th, 1996 at the Safari Club. It was the only show Craig was on guitar. Joey wanted more of a variety in sound so, Craig switched to samples and Mick Thomson, formely of Body Pit, took that open guitar slot. That year they won the KKDM Battle Of The Bands, beating rivals Corey Taylor and James Root's band Stone Sour. Following the departure of Donnie Steele, the concept of the mask was born. Originally it was just Anders and Shawn that worn them. The rest of the band followed.

Crowz And Corey Taylor
Slipknot recorded their sophmore CD Crowz. This contained revised songs taken from MFKR and some new material. They were trying to look for a record deal. Their main focus was Roadrunner Records. They were signed but not right away. RoadRunner felt the songwriting needed improvement and melody for the vocalist. So they looked for a more radio friendly voice. So they approach Corey Taylor "Join the band or we'll kick your ass!" Corey accepted so he quit Stone Sour. With Corey, Anders was pushed back to back-up vocals and percussion, he didn't like the change. On September 17th, 1997, The Safari Club, right before playing their closing song "Hearache And A Pair Of Scissors, Anders says on stage "This will be my last show". He hated the idea of being pushed back to percussion and back-up vocals, so thats why he quit. Because of this they were forced to re-record selected songs from Crowz minus Anders. They get the deal with RoadRunner, so the Crowz project was dropped and never to be released but some songs did leak out such as: Coleslaw, Carve, and The Me Inside.
