A test to certify the aircraft back up to CAT3A land status. It was also a CRM check for a new captain (you'll notice they are both captains). I was the safety pilot. Lands quite a bit right of centreline but still in limits. Being Leeds it floats quite a bit due to the down slope, but still lands in the touch down zone.

  • I didnt think Leeds / Bradford had ILS capabilities

  • @Schenkerflyingv Yep, 14/32 both have ILS. Runway 14 however is only CAT 1 as it has a 3.5 degree slope which is out of limits for most commercial aircraft. Runway 32 is CAT3A.

  • @ThomsonAirwaysFs Yeah it does, remember this is nearly 30 year old tech. Is dual channel which means the autopilots don't control the rudder. Doesn't have the directional control of a triple channel (rudder/rollout) auto land. Amazingly it was in limits, scary I know! Think it has to land on the grass to be out of limits! Ha

  • @JustAnOrdinarySimmer I'm an airline pilot and I'm on YouTube :) (to be honest I agree with your comment) Mainly as Ryanair don't operate this type and pilots normally can do better than the 737 auto land. Doesn't quite have the finesse that a triple channel auto land has like the 777.

  • I was at LBIA earlier today, it was very boring, saw 2 jet2 B737-300s land and was sat on the wall for at least one hour. The crosswind was intense though, gotta admire the amount of skill involved in the manual landings...

  • @MGCMuseGuitarCovers Yeah 99% of landings are done manually, the only time we use the autoland function is when weather dictates. The aircraft can fly more accurately and doesn't rely on visual references.

  • @JustAnOrdinarySimmer Hey I am another airline pilot on youtube (what else do you think we do with our days off)! But I fly Airbus. This looks like it was put together by the Wright brothers. Still I would love to have a go on a Boeing at some stage. Just wish they would get rid of the ridiculous control column which gets in the way of my sleeping/eating table.

  • okay....i think it is good that the autoland´s hat been better!!!

  • @n310ea Trim wheels

  • looks to be that it landed quite a lot to the right of the center line of the runway?

  • @freightliner66 Oh really?! you're a Ryanair first officer? did you enjoy flying that PA28? Sorry dude but I know who is and is not an airline pilot. Least place to find them in on youtube since YouTube is mostly full of kids and wannabes. However, if you are a Ryanair first officer, what is your name? we could grab a coffee and share some experiances.

  • PAPIs were 2-white,2-reds - perfect landing . wind nil . As usual autoland comes with a bump - but the hydraulics can take it , forces distributed among the stringers of the aircraft. A good pilot is always better than the mechanics.
