great tuning on the contrabass...overall an amazing performance

I can see now why Verdi preferred the trombone quartet over the usual three trombones and tuba combination. The contrabass trombone provides a MUCH better foundation to the brass. "Not that damned tuba" - to quote Maestro Verdi himself. USAF Vet - agree this drags a bit. At least I'm assuming that you got to be in the "real" Air Force and not have to settle for being a weekend warrior wanna be in that bastard step-child of an air guard like I had to do. Minor league all the way....

@USAFVet1 Glad to be of service! You alseep means you get to keep your idiotic views to yourself for a bit longer.Hooray for us!

I think the tempo is fine - the intonation and tuning would be iffy at any tempo. Good effort though - much to like in this.

I happen to like this tempo. This is such a beautiful piece. The slow tempo makes it a little more expressive and lets each note speak clearly. Wonderful job on the contrabass, Edward. I hope to be getting a contrabass for myself sometime in the upcoming years.

Don't waste your money on sleeping pills, listen to this instead. Three minutes in I was nodding off big time.
who published and arranged this piece. I want to buy it but i'm not sure which arrangement to get. There is one for trombone quartet and brass sextet...i want the one recorded on the New Trombone Collective's cd... Anyways, if you could lemme know who arranged/published etc that'd be really helpful. Thanks for posting!

@wesmantooth0620 The version that we performed and that is performed by the NTC is published by Lydke Verlag and is for six trombones or tubas.

I understand why our performance of this piece has been criticised - in large part due to the very slow tempo selected by the conductor. We now perform it at least a third faster and it works better that way since it flows more naturally.
Thanks for the compliments on the contrabass trombone; that was me playing and it's hard to pull off in this piece. It does illustrate very clearly how much better the contrabass is at providing the fundamental bass to the trombones compared to the tuba.
