This is my Dual model 1229 turntable playing The Rolling Stones version of "Cherry Oh Baby" from the album "Black and Blue"

"Update"- Ok, I haven't been monitoring these vids lately so I'll just add some info in response to some of the questions. First, a bit of history about this particular deck. I purchased this at an auction a few years ago from a stereo shop that was in business from the late 60's until about mid 90's. This turntable was unused and still in it's original box and had just been sitting for the last 30+ years. It was a great score!

The cartridge being used in this video is a Realistic(R1000 I think), which is actually a Shure M75 re-badged for RadioShack. It is a pretty nice cart, quite dynamic and well balanced which is what Shure is famous for.

Regarding the video and sound, I recorded this with an old vhs camcorder(yes, analog) connected directly to my capture device, thus bypassing the tape. The sound is not from the camcorder, I used one of the tape loop outputs from my preamp connected directly to the pc sound card.

And finally about my vinyl, I only play vinyl that is in good condition and it always gets cleaned on the Nitty Gritty before going on the turntable. Clean vinyl=clean sound!

  • ...have the same Dual. White, with the original dustcover. Had to restore it, now a phantastic player.

  • i bought this album from a flea market for 1.00 and i love it.

  • My dad is giving me his! :)) I'm so excited because I have Pink Floyd's Animals and I can't wait to hear it!!

  • @reggaesoundsystem311 like like this video indeed! goin back in time in ears and eyes :-)

  • "Black and Blue" is sort of an under appreciated gem; much stronger album than people would assume, given its relative obscurity. That Dual seems to have aged gracefully as well.

  • LOVED that turntable--everything from the noises it made when cycling to the soothing hum of the idler-drive motor. Coolest of all was the sound it made after the tonearm settled into the groove and the circuit turned on and vice versa. Every single time I watch a movie or listen to a record, I hear that thu-THUN in my mind. Too bad it bit the dust way back in 1985; the last record ever played on it was the 2nd side of "Tommy Boy Greatest Beats." Yours seems to be in excellent condition. Peace.

  • @OldMusicOnVinyl1 Looks like that to me too.

  • @OldMusicOnVinyl1 Ha, ok sorry I did miss that – I was going by looks and I was wrong.

Next time I will read the description Mr. OldMusicOnVinyl ;)

  • @MrCoolManTim Wrong, it's a Realistic R1000 which is basically a rebadged Shure M75. Read the description next time!

  • @OhGreatAnalogOne , but they quite nice too,
