How To Root - Craig CMP738a 7" Android Tablet - Tutorial

Here is the much awaited video showing you how to upgrade the firmware on your CVS Craig 7" Wireless Android Tablet.. I will show you step by step on how to do it.. there are a few things you need to know before you start..
You do this at your own risk.. please take the time to watch the video and familiarize yourself with the steps before you try this. If you never flashed a device before.. please be careful.. when i tell you to hold the Home and Power buttons.. DO NOT RELEASE at all until i tell you to.. doing so could BRICK your tablet.. then you choose which you want to do.. in my first video i used the 4.2 vers of android 2.1.. in this video i will be using 4.3 vers.. there is also a version of Android 2.2 Froyo which is .4.. some say locks up.. some have no problems.. in my case i will do that next after i play with 4.3 for awhile.. possibly another video.. who knows.. anyways.. download the software and the RKUtils.zip which contains the flash utility and the drivers for your tablet so your computer can see it. Make sure the first thing you do after downloading RKUtils.zip is to extract to a folder and go ahead and install the drivers.. i go over it real quck in the video but all you do is hold down Home and Power with your left hand then with your right hand plug in your usb cable to your computer and tablet.. then windows will find a new device and you just point it to the drivers folder that corresponds with your version of windows.. once you do that.. leave the usb cable hooked to your pc.. but unhook it from your tablet.. let go of the buttons.. then proceed to rename the firmware to update.img.. once you do that.. run the flash utility as i show you in the video and hold on..

i checked some forums i frequent and only one person who said they tried it with no luck.. your best bet would search out a forum online that deals with the original craig like mine and post on there to get some help to see if anyone else has tried to root the B version

If anyone has their screen quit.. i fixed my sons.. the ribbon for the touch screen had come loose from the lil pcb.. it was very tight stretch anyways.. looks like a bad design they should of put some kind of bend in the cable to give some play.. i stuck it back in and it works now

Hi, I'm a Mac owner of the Craig CMP738a.

I WAS able to upgrade the unit to Foyo by downloading the file from Craig's website just fine, but I really would like to get it rooted and running optimally.

Does anyone know of a ROM mod that CAN be launched from a micro SD, given that the current two mods by Shad and Flush seem dependent on 'rktools.zip' which is Windows only?

@yrag0001 - some people say you can do the same with the official firmware by putting it on microSD and then running it.. i have not tried this so i cannot confirm.. the one my son had died so i gotta get him a new one.. the touch screen no longer works.. it will boot but you cant control anything..

@xXxBlueNomaxXx of course not. rooting and jailbreaking is different. rooting is real hacking, but you cant compare it to jailbreaking which is much shallower and just tweaking of the UI.

I have the CMP738b not the CMP738a, I followed the steps and finished successfully, when try to turn on the tablet, wont turn even if I kept pressing forever, neither the reset button doesn't do anything. is there a way to go back, factory reset something? please help
