An interesting gathering of singers in this Rigoletto Quartet from TV in the late 1950's. The great basso, Cesare Siepi, sings the baritone role of Rigoletto for this TV version of the Quartet. Very historical!!

  • Youtube is a fantastic repository for the whole world of the great artists of the modern world. I love to search this endless treasurehouse. ! ! !

  • Very nice job. Valletti made lots of recordings, but his voice did not record well. On stage he had a golden tenor like Corelli or Tucker, just not so big.

Peters had a lovely but tiny voice. She could only be heard when singing above the staff.

Thebom looked and sounded great. Don't know why she made so few recordings.

Siepi was a big star and still sounded great when I heard him in Don Carlo. He was in his 60s.

And, YOU TUBE people...I pray you never, ever stop this...I love it and apprieciate it so much, words are not enough. Always remember that there are some of us who just don't get out as much any more, and YOU TUBE makes our days...at least it does mine! Thank you so very much. Maybe someday I'll learn how to upload some I have.

  • @rockgor What do you mean his voice didn't record well ?? His recording of his carnege hall concert is wonderfull

  • MIss Thebom was pretty much a staple at the Met during those years. I remember listening to Saturday at THE MET programs, and wondering just what Miss Thebom looked like. She is TREMENDOUS! I LOVE her smiling all the way through rather than some who look as though they're in PAIN! Wonder whether it's true she never had her hair cut, and could have it fixed any way to match the role. Thanks so much for posting this...wonderful , marvelous singers of the past!

  • Love the posture of the mezzo. Nice bod to boot.

  • confuse :S

  • Great performance of this. I like the way they walk right up plant their feet and just belt it out. I also prefer the older finish they used over what newer singers are doing nowdays.

  • ~~~that was a LONG time ago! Memorial Hall had fold-up , boxing was Wednesday nights opera a concerts on Saturday........great memories.
