Sorry, looking at the video again I see this is a ship-sloop not a brig–take back all I said about main, fore and mizzen mast! Apologies! And crossjack on mizzen correctly has no sail bent to it. However, the flags are wrong; these should be: ensign (red, white or blue, your choice–the red was the senior and most common British naval ensign) at the spanker gaff; long pennant at mainmast head (common pennant [striped] or red, white or blue to match ensign); Union of correct era at jackstaff.
You posters have the vexillogy wrong too. An ensign (not 'Royal'), red, white or blue, depending on squadron etc,, should be worn at the spanker gaff, not the Union Flag. But St Patrick's saltire (the red diagonal) gets added only on 01-01-1801, with the formation of the UK. At least it is the correct way up! Union Jack should be flown on the jackstaff on the bowsprit. What is that '50-star Admiralty ensign' - a later US flag? Eventual pennant should be at mainmast head - the AFTER mast.
Nice rigging job, Steve, Actually, that is the mainmast, not the mizzen; a brig has mainmast and foremast, no mizzen. Your 'mainmast' in the commentary is the foremast. But sometimes your commentary gets it right, too - so, a little confusion here. To be clear - after mast: mainmast; forward mast: foremast. Usually, a brig sets no main course (no lower square sail on the after, main, mast) and that lower yard is called the crossjack, or cro'jack. All-carronade armament, I see - powerful!
Don't want to be extra picky Steve, Badger is right but what is not right is that the Union Jack is not prmitted to be flown from vessels. The correct flag is the Royal Ensign.
I don't want to be picky Steve, as this is a superb piece of work but your Union Jack is not quite accurate. The red diagonal Irish cross inside the Scottish saltire was not added until around 1802.
WOW!!! AMAZING. Steve you are without a doubt one of the finest model ship-wrights in the world. I would hope you would consider putting all of these vids. on DVD, so they can be watched at home. I would gladly buy one.
I am hoping to restart working on mine again, my new job is swamping me with hours.
