I've noticed Hollywood tends to do this; take a mundane profession and depict it through the lense of madness. They do it with truckers, forensic technicians, etc.

This movie was as much a product of movies of the time as it was the culture of trucking. But the type of graft and corruption, along with fewer open roads and more Interstates, might change the story if there were a remake.

The reduction of Indipendants and more Union and corporate trucks make a big change (though there are still a lot of trucks driving well over the speed limit and in the wrong lanes).

Maybe there'd be a bigger focus on the 10 hours on, 10 off laws and the speed limiters?
