Let's Play Labyrinth of Touhou - 4F Boss (Part 1)

Since this is my second playthrough, I'm using v2.06's New Game + mode to access all characters I've previously unlocked, and had people vote on the 12 characters I'm allowed to use, with the stipulation that I'm never allowed to level up and use any other character. This, coupled with my tendency to be underleveled, is suppose to make my second playthrough more challenging (I admit, I don't intend to go through the plus disk content again). Alice was suppose to be my 12th, but I left her out for this battle.

I didn't have a full party and was underleveled (JP wiki suggests lvl 20-24), but I knew what to expect and went in with a defined strategy. In fact, earlier I was practicing this fight a few times to farm Alice's Forbidden Tablet drop, and managed a perfect win with no casualties. I made quite a few mistakes in this runthrough, as I kept forgetting to check if someone was already silenced before switching them in.

Alice comes with 3 dolls: Healing Light, Magical Light, and Beautiful Light. Healing Light will spam cures, and starts the battle with 100% boost to both DEF and MND. Patchy's Silent Selene and Royal Flare can still overcome it, as can Remilia post-Curse of Vlad Tepes. Magical Light uses multi-target elemental nukes and is vulnerable to physical attacks and stat-down effects; Beautiful Light uses single-target physical attacks and is weak to magic and paralysis. Alice herself spams paralysis and silence spells, and will use Return Inanimate, Seeker Dolls, and Little Legion after killing one of her dolls.

Make sure Patchy has at least 208 SP to cast Silent Selene or Royal Flare 4 times on the Healing Light. Royal Flare does damage to all the dolls, but it has much more delay and does less damage to the Healing Light in particular. Cirno can both paralyze the Beautiful Light and slow down the Magical Light. Meiling's Healer is crucial for removing Alice's many status afflictions; too bad she was silenced for most of this fight. Healing Light must be killed first, as it can heal the other 3 enemies for ~10,000 HP at once if they get low, but it can't use that strong healing spell on itself. Magical Light should go down next, as it's more damaging than Beautiful Light. In fact, since Beautiful Light is so easy to keep paralyzed, it's not a bad idea to just ignore it and concentrate on Alice once the other two dolls are dead.

The game lags a bit when I record, so I'll probably only continue doing this for special boss fights.

Are Youmu & Alice the only bosses to have this battle theme? I'm up to 14F now and (apart from Eientei & Bloodstained seals) all the other bosses have had the normal boss theme. Which isn't bad, but I like this one more.

@Kalieum Yup, they're the only 2. Mandatory Touhou character bosses that guard the stairs to the next floor usually have their own theme. Youmu and Alice share a theme, while the rest all have unique themes. The only exception is Reisen, who has the normal boss theme.

When I got here, I was really questioning the guy who decided to draw Boss Alice like an old man. I was already put off from how almost everyone else was drawn with tsurimes and no noses

Alice is drawn this way as a reference to Delas Getta, the final boss of Toushin Toshi 2, a game by Alicesoft.

Rumia's very helpful with her healing spell in this fight because it gets rid of those nasty debuffs that Alice's dolls like use. Cirno's helpful for keeping Alice and the rightmost doll paralyzed (don't bother worrying about the leftmost doll, just focus on keeping the rightmost doll paralyzed and exploit the lowered defenses on the recovery doll).

This boss was no problem for me. Took about a half hour, but it wasn't nearly as hard as the Youmu fight. Needless to say, I was disappointed, xD. Youmu was literally a damage race, and had very little strategy involved.

Oh, I really do love this battle theme. I remember when I ran into Youmu for the first time, and heard this theme. I was like "New boss theme? OH SHI-"

...Turned out that reaction was for a good reason. I was SO satisfied when I finally beat her, and not just because she's one of my favourite Touhou characters.

Gah...more training for me...I tried following you since I wasn't doing well alone, but that didn't work. I got wiped out right away. But Remilia's faster than Sakuya, so I couldn't switch Sakuya out after she used Lunar Dial, which means Meirin couldn't heal Remilia after she used the Curse of Vlad Tepes, and it was all a big mess. D: *sobs*
