Professor chiicagoalmose has developed a one question test that can determine 'true intelligence" and thinking ability. A great question for job interviewers.

  • Hi professor,

I knew a very nice lady who couldn't read but she could clean a house like it was 'nobody's business'! If I were hiring someone to clean my house, then I would hire her regardless of whether or not she could answer this question. But while we are all at it, I'd like add a pretty simple one...WHAT WILL WE NAME THIS BRIDGE?

  • (cont) Whether or not to install a toll bridge (to cover costs - may be unfavourable); public opinion of the bridge (is it really necessary to install, do they want it, is there much opposition to it?). Impact on the local economy (sudden burst in short-term jobs - negative or positive). How does it impact the environment (wildlife)? Additionally, low-flying aircraft (if suspension bridge - if so, requires lights) are a consideration.

That was what I could come up with before you raised points.

  • I was looking for a good test. The considerations I could note (before you got to your point) in order (I didn't account weather or swaying):

    - Support for the bridge (weights of moving vehicles etc), type of materials to use (especially in relation to the local economy, eg steel, concrete, wood etc), size/types of boat to account, type of bridge (suspension, support, etc), unmoving/moving design... (cont)

  • Come off it! The very first thing is the QUANTITY OF TRAFFIC and projected growth. How many lanes? How much weight? How many people will redirect traffic once the bridge is completed? Before you even think about the type of bridge like suspension versus cantilever or maybe even pontoon.

How deep and fast is the river?

What kind of shore on each side of the river. Is it sand? Is it rock?
