@excl0213 Stalin did not want to believe that Hitler was going to attack him. By the time the Germans started their attack Stalin was still sending supplies to Germany.

@bweazel The USSR was going to attack Germany, but the Germans attacked first, took them by surprise, and caused much more casualties.

@ITSbigwillystyle Heartlessly throwing unarmed men up against the German army is not "sheer might" it is sheer evil and shows the dysfunction of a communist economy. Did it stop the Germans? Yes. But the Ruskie's paid a heavy price to do so. I still have no idea why Germany chose to attack that front. They could have concentrated on western europe, then moved to take out the Brits, then help Italy with Africa, THEN go after the Ruskies. Piss poor planning by the German generals.
