  • Why do the interstitials on the VHS and laserdisc only have shots of the orchestra and not Deems Taylor himself?

  • @GameStation3 I think it might ave something to do with the general release version from the mid-1940s that is recreated here. Only that it's longer and the edit made in the Beethoven 6th symphony (Pastoral) is originally from the 1970's re-release. I'm upset Disney still didn't make the film uncut for the new DVD/Blu Ray release. Are you?

  • My 1991 VHS does that, and it was the last Disney VHS tape to feature the 1984 FBI screens. It opens the same exact way. On the 2010 Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack release, it doesn't featured the 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo at all except the original "Fantasia" main title appeared in the intermission. It only starts with all of the musicians are preparing for a performance until Deems Taylor arrived. No main title at all.

  • @HomeoftheGoodGuys I have the regular 2-Disc movie set on DVD.

  • @avickers1992 I don't know if I can agree with you on that one. They were about 60 or 70% accurate with the restoration process for the 70th Anniversary Blu-Ray release.

  • i have this one on laserdisc and dvd. in the laserdisc version, you can't see deems taylor and in the dvd version, you see him talking, i also read that deems was voiced by corey burton. which makes me confused

  • I also own the 2010 Blu-Ray of Fantasia.

Overall the Blu-Ray of Fantasia offers the best quality of the film to date.

However I think that the Laserdisc version from 1991 offers audio that is more faithful to the original Fantasound Mix. Once again it has the Deems Taylor narrations.

  • @Riddler95 And, unfortunately, you are right. (for I have the 2010 Blu-ray version.) The original narrations are still not found nor were they fully restored (remember: the 2010 Blu-ray contains the Roadshow extended version and the audio recordings of those missing scenes weren't used since 1940, and, as a result, must have been deteriorated over the years, so it seems to be understandable.) ... better than nothing, I guess.

  • It is disappointing I think that the Deems Taylor narrations were not restored for the 2010 Blu-Ray of Fantasia, luckily I have the CAV Laserdisc of Fantasia with the Deems Taylor Narrations.

  • The Original 1940 Version of Fantasia did not feature Main Titles.

For the 60th Anniversary DVD, Disney wanted to present the Original 1940 125 Minute Roadshow Version of the film.

  • You know what? DudeThatLogo also has that logo in laserdisc too but different color formats.

  • Because the print used in the VHS and L.D versions was the 'general release' in which the film was heavily edited to cut down time. For the DVD and Blu-Ray versions, Taylor was restored with all his interstitials, bring the film back to its original look.

  • @avickers1992 Actually, not so much. After all, I have a version of the Pastoral Symphony unedited with Sunflower in it!
