The 4th track off of At The Drive-Ins debut album, Acrobatic Tenement, released in 1996.

i-n-i-t-i-a-t-i-o-n
follow you home after every show

perforated into tiny fragments
heavy breathing's your new fan club
a john handcock with the safety off
after every show
and how this pedastel fits like glove
such a pity i built no ladder from
the roots and above
i'll be hacking off
after every show

initiation
there's no restraining order to keep me from you
these parting contestants neverwin

watch you clap your hands by the stage
lend me your ears
for just another page
in the book that your friend signed yesterday
when i told you not to bother to holler
your telephone's the one
that helped
me wrap
the cord
around your neck
you know you're beautiful
when you're dead

initiation
there's no restraining order to keep me from you
these parting contestants never win

  • dunno i think it might be about some stalker or something that is obsessed with a band and "follows them home after every show"...lol just guessing...

  • @GlennYule It's about 2 fans who would go to every ATDI show, and they died on the way to one of the shows and then this song was written about them. It's not about stalkers

  • Son geniales wn! :D

  • CAN'T WAIT FOR REUNION 2012!!!!

  • you guys need to holler at me cuz i got answers for a lot of questions that ppl didnt know about atdi

  • @rabaku99 2.

my question = On the ‘Ludvico Drive-In’ track off the ‘Carajo’ EP, backup vocals were done by Laura Beard and Sarah Reiser, who eventually died in a car crash two years later. Did this influence any future songs, even if in some unknown semblance?

jim ward's answer = The song “Initiation” was a tribute to them as far as I know, Cedric obviously wrote the lyrics and was very close to the girls. It was and still is a tremendous loss.

  • @earzmundo The 2 girls aren't Sarah Reiser and Laura Beard are they (the girls in Cedric's previous group The Fall on Deaf Ears?) Someone below said that it was them, but I didn't think it was, because Napoleon Solo was written for them. I was under the impression that the song was about 2 girls who were fans. Do you know?

  • it's about 2 girls as evans said..i interviewd jim on this for my paper

  • @robotmugabe 2 years of 0 dislikes and you had to f it all up lol
