Assyrian- Walk of Remembrance

In 1918 Assyrian forces isolated for nine months were surrounded and ensnared in the Persian City of Urmia, outnumbered and low on ammunition, the enemy broke through the lines and the nation escaped south in an a disorganised retreat in an attempt to reach British lines. 80,000 started the exodus and only 50,000 reached safety, the remainder perished on sides of roads or were killed by the merciless enemy.
