A performance from the first Farm Aid benefit concert. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.

Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

This is my favourite Henley song. I understand the "Farm Aid" connection, but this is a profound spiritual track not one about politics. The idea of just "sitting", being and knowing... watching the rest of the world running around with screwed-up values and contemplating his end in eternity, so that he can be with his "partner" again... I know that porch well, I've seen those sunsets and I listen and weep in gratitude for that day...

@nymphsfield007 its got 13 thousand now most people dont care for family farms no more most here are gone or about to farms around were i live either grown tobacco or corn an cotton an this past season was horrible to much heat an barely any rain i saw corn not even over 4 or 5 feet tall stalks its gets bad every other season but i hope this season will be good i help out most farmers whit planting tobacco we get it two rows at a time haha

@Adipsia1 The first-person narrative of the song is particularly touching and very real, especially explaining the state of society at that time. You can play this song today and it parallels the world we live in. Can't imagine what he would think of the state of the world in 2011.

@kiwithe3 Thanks for your comment... I love the idea of sitting down on a front-porch somewhere and reflecting and bouncing things like this around. Above anything else I sense that we're more "human" than otherwise. I'll let you choose where you would like to sit on the "porch" and quite happily serve you drinks and cake whilst you reminisce !
