The Flying Change's Pain Is a Reliable Signal is a troubled tale that touches on the familiar themes of love, loss and reckoning. Written by songwriter Sam Jacobs and coaxed to life by producer Paul Brill, the album's ten songs underscore the ongoing series of health issues that hijacked Sam's wife and their family beginning in 2004; a lonely pinball journey through unyielding institutions, staffed by careless doctors and faceless bureaucrats, and, ultimately, back again. Dubbed "landscape pop", the songs couple broken grasping lyrics with rich, earthen soundscapes and hook-laden melodies, and feature performances by a host of heralded musicians from the New York music scene.
This film comes from Monte Krause who conceived, directed and edited the film as an experiment in new short-form music video concepts. This is the first in a planned series incorporating similar visual themes and designed around different pieces of music found on the record.
Pain Is A Reliable Signal will be released on May 19th, 2009 on Scarlet Shame Records. For more information please visit www.theflyingchange.com
