This is a short series showing you my VERY LOW COST, HIGHLY EFFECTIVE system for de-watering, settling and filtering waste oil for use as a diesel supplement/alternative (subject to suitability).
Two Systems are shown; one for absolute filth contaminated with food/water/cigarette ends/fat, and the other for visibly clear oil only (simpler system).
All components are selected for cheapness and availability. The final filtration is done through vacuum cleaner bags (Henry's are good)....they can be burned for fuel when clogged with solid fats (see FATLOG series).

Go ahead and emancipate yourself from fuel slavery.

Other guidance (you must verify as current and valid)
Currently in the UK you do not require a 'Waste Carriers Licence' if you are collecting for your own use; you can use 2,500L/yr before registeing with HMCE to pay duty (about 30p/L), but you must keep a record of what you have used.

  • For retrieving hard fats, put the decantation barrel on a platform, add a large plumbing valve in the bottom of the barrel (hole and a buncha silicone) that makes the muck go under the platform into a bucket for later use?

  • Brilliant. Simple and brilliant. Thanks for the tips :)

  • Can use some fine mesh nylon textile as first filter, then fill a tank, let it stand and clear itself, then it is basically filtered all by itself..

To remove polymers and such it seems activated carbon granulates can be used, then the pH should be checked (aim at pH of 7).

The oil can be heated to >100C to remove water molecules..

    And some shit.

  • hurry up plumbing nut

  • hello mr. im a 4th year mechanical engineering student our professor wants share his research about waste cooking oil use for jeepney(common transportation of the philippines) and we want to help him because his one of the problem is filtrating the waste oil, so that is our thesis on how to filtrate the waste oil, and his expectation is automated filtration..can you help my thesis partner?
